Paleo Turkey Meatloaf Recipe

Gobble, gobble!!!  No, it’s not Thanksgiving, we’re enjoying a great turkey meatloaf!  This is Dan from Primal4Life bringing you our version of ”Turkey Basil Meatloaf” from the cookbook OMG That’s Paleo?  I don’t know about you, but we’ve been down the turkey meatloaf road before…. Back when we started eating healthier, eating a boring, dry meatloaf made with turkey.  But times have changed!  And thanks to Juli Bauer’s cookbook that we recently picked up from Julian Bakery, we have been able to enjoy a turkey meatloaf that’s moist and delicious, along with being nutritious! 

We decided to make half of this recipe since it’s just three of us, so please adjust accordingly.  We start off with a preheated oven set to 375 F, and then we mix all ingredients together for the meatloaf in a bowl.  Once mixed, the ingredients go into a bread loaf pan (although we used a baking dish), and bake for 25-30 minutes or until there is no pink remaining in the loaf.  That’s all folks!!  Just wait till you try this one!!  It will definitely not disappoint!

Ingredients:

• 1 pound ground turkey

• 1 egg, whisked

• ½ cup almond flour

• ½ cup fresh basil, chopped

• ½ tablespoon garlic powder

• ½ tablespoon onion powder

• ½ teaspoon dried parsley

• 1 tablespoon Coconut Secret – Coconut Aminos

Fine Himalayan Crystal Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

1)      Preheat oven to 375 F

2)      Mix all ingredients for meatloaf in a bowl.

3)      Place all ingredients into bread loaf pan or baking dish.

4)      Bake for 25-30 minutes or until there is no pink remaining in the loaf.

5)      Eat!

6)      OMG, that was easy.

• 5 minutes

Cook Time:

• 30 minutes

Serves: 3-4

I love the little footnotes at the bottom of Juli’s recipes, some of them are cute and funny, some of them are legit helpful tips.  This recipe originated as a “Chicken Basil Meatloaf”, but thanks to her comment we decided to opt for ground turkey.  “Not into ground chicken?  Understandable.  Try ground turkey or ground beef instead!”  She also suggests roasted cauliflower as a side dish, but we decided to make roasted asparagus (which went very well with the “Turkey Basil Meatloaf” by the way!).  And with the slight modifications (besides the protein), we were able to add a little more flavor into the mix.  The Coconut Secret – Coconut Aminos added a night touch, along with vitamins and amino acids too!  And a touch of the Fine Himalayan Crystal Salt also bumped things up; great flavor, lots of trace minerals, as well as iodine – which is very important to include in your diet.
