And now for a totally different type of Paleo book!!! This is Dan from Primal4Life reviewing “Paleo Girl” written by Leslie Klenke. You must be thinking “Why do you (a guy!) want to read Paleo Girl? It’s for girls, dude!” Well, having an open-mind and an urge to learn more and more has my interest piqued. I also have a six year-old daughter, and I’m beginning to think this can help me help her in the long run. Any fathers out there will understand; you want to be there for your little girl, and this book will certainly help!
From the start, I noticed Leslie’s tone was just perfect for this type of book. The way she talks, it’s as if she’s your friend, throughout the entire book, just walking you through her ways…. The Primal ways of life! In the beginning of the book she touches on Paleo and Primal foods, she gets into the dangers of processed carbs, sugars, the benefits of healthy fats and good quality proteins. Stretching, working out, and moving correctly make their mark in chapter 2, and I am digging the step by step exercise photos which give the reader a great visual on how to make the necessary movements. Remember, lifting is for girls too and you aren’t going to get “jacked”! Some topics covered in the chapter 3: the sun and how it’s important, sleep and how it can make or break you, and never stop playing. The next few chapters get into some serious conversations, and parents may find this very helpful. These topics range from puberty to bullying and eating disorders as well. If you are a parent, this is a great refresher course and can help you discuss these issues with your child. If you’re a young girl looking to understand what is going on in life, grab a copy of this book, as it will open your eyes to the world without a bunch of mumbo-jumbo. And if the boys were smart they’d pick up a copy to “learn up” as well. We all know they take longer to get up to speed, right?
You’ll also find Leslie’s amazing transformation, a host of other girls’ transformations, and some great easy to make recipes! I personally am not shocked at the transformations, as I’ve been in the Paleo and Primal scene for a few years now. I’m used to it. But I think most will be in awe at some of the amazing progress these girls have made, and the life-lessons they’ve already learned at such a young age. It’s truly amazing what a clean diet from real foods, without processed junk, sugar and grains will do!

The recipe I just shared is my take on Paleo Girl’s “Flippin’ Chicken Sammie”. They used chicken, as the title suggests, I went with pork. They used a stove, I used a grill. They added some healthy EVOO, I used a Paleo Mayo and enhanced mine with Coconut Secret – Coconut Aminos. And I also took it a step further and wrapped it up with a delicious Paleo Wrap from Julian Bakery! Its low in carbs, it has only seventy calories, doesn’t have any gluten, GMO’s, soy, starch, or grains, and it’s made from organic coconut! I love coconut, and I’m always a fan of getting MCT’s (medium chain triglycerides) into my diet. So I felt that my twist on the “Flippin’ Chicken Sammie” was appropriate and a great display on how you can take a recipe and make it work for you with a few simple Paleo swaps!
Overall, I highly recommend Paleo Girl to fathers, girls, even moms…. Times have changed and this is a wonderful way to learn via the healthy Primal methods. Personally, I think Paleo Girl has allowed me to understand the changes that my daughter will be going through. I also feel that your daughters will be very impressed with your latest reading material by the way, which may help grow a better bond. Now I’ll be able to be there with more confidence for my little Alessia, even though she isn’t going to be oh so little for much longer. They grow up so quickly, so make sure you are ready for the changes that are coming.
