The king of amazing combo’s is back at it, this time with some baby arugula and grass-fed ground beef to make a kickin’ burger! This is Dan from Primal4Life bringing you “Grass-fed Garlic & Arugula Burgers”. Yeah, I certainly am an arugula admirer. Not only is it spicy, but it delivers a bunch of nutrients and goodness. So why not stuff it into our nutrient-dense grass-fed burgers to make them work! Along with a little minced garlic, ground black pepper, and some Quantum Pink Salt for the win! With ease, we can make some slammin’ hamburgers, kept organic, nutritious, and delicious!
You know what else is awesome? The fact that we can enjoy hamburgers while being on the Paleo diet, and have our bread too! Paleo Bread is here to save the day, with just one net carb per slice, several flavors to choose from, and they never include GMO’s, gluten, soy, starch, or grains! Plus they have a good amount of fiber in them which helps aid in weight loss. I personally suffer from auto-immune issues, and there was a time in my life where all breads were banned in order for me to avoid aches, pains, and not be in misery. Along came Paleo Bread, and suddenly I was able to eat that slice, and still feel nice!
- Paleo Bread (More Info On Julian Bakery Paleo Bread)
- 1 lb grass-fed ground beef
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Handful of baby arugula
- ½ tsp Quantum Pink Salt
- ½ tsp ground black pepper
- Fresh tomato slices
- Fresh onion slices
- Primal Avocado Dill Ranch Dressing (optional – see below)
- In a medium sized bowl, combine beef, garlic, arugula, salt and pepper. Mix well by hand, then form beef patties.
- Add beef patties to your preferred method of cooking, I grilled, and I also grilled my Paleo Bread as well. Use low/indirect heat for the Paleo Bread, while using med/high heat for the burgers.
- When cooked to your liking, create your burgers. I used tomato, onion, pickles, and topped it with a Primal Avocado Dill Ranch Dressing (optional).

So if you aren’t Primal, then skip that really incredible dressing that I decided to include. Rachel threw it together, basing it with a half cup of the Paleo Mayo recipe from the 500 Paleo Recipes Cookbook, then adding in half an avocado, two tablespoons of chopped fresh dill, a half cup sour cream, two cloves crushed garlic, salt and pepper. Since it has sour cream, that dairy is what makes it Primal…. So if you are strictly Paleo then this is out for you. But I can almost guarantee that these burgers will still be amazing with just the basics; ketchup, mustard, Paleo Mayo, relish, sauerkraut, or whatever your healthy heart desires!
Overall, these burgers were fantastic. I grilled them to about a medium-rare, they were soft and juicy, while having that little kick that I was searching for by using baby arugula and garlic. Plus, think of how incredibly healthy these burgers are. Starting off with the fact that they aren’t grain fed, rather grass-fed, that makes all the difference in the world. Not only do they taste better, but they are less inflammatory since the cows ate what they intended. This results in a higher Omega-3 vs Omega-6 ratio, which is what we want! Next up, the arugula is a “rich source of certain phytochemicals such as indoles, thiocyanates, sulforaphane, and isothiocyanates which have been found to counter carcinogenic effects of estrogen and thus help benefit against prostate, breast, cervical, colon, ovarian cancers by virtue of their cancer-cell growth inhibition, cytotoxic effects on cancer cells.” It has a ton of vitamin A, B vitamins, vitamin C and K, and “Arugula leaves contain adequate levels of minerals, especially copper and iron. In addition, it has small amounts of some other essential minerals and electrolytes such as calcium, iron, potassium, manganese, and phosphorus.” And garlic, well you know garlic is good for you, right? Right!
I hope this shows you that burgers are not all created equal. From what the cow ate, all the way to how the bread was made, and everything in between, every ingredient matters. That’s why I use Paleo Bread; quality ingredients, no GMO’s, gluten, soy or any of the bad that we are trying to steer clear from, and one net carb per slice! By keeping carbs low, focusing on consuming real ingredients, and ditching the grains and legumes, you too can feel amazing and acquire your goals.
